Chinese Medicine and Acupuncture for fertility
Chinese medicine, of which acupuncture is a part, has been used for millennia in the Far East to treat many fertility related issues. In simple terms, acupuncture has been helping to boost the fertility of both men and women for literally thousands of years. Recent research has shown that acupuncture treatment can significantly reduce stress and anxiety levels which can be very detrimental to successful conception and pregnancy. Research also shows that acupuncture has profound physical effects on the body such as increasing blood flow to the uterus and possibly helping to address hormonal imbalances. Using Acupuncture for fertility boosting is ideal, as it takes a holistic approach to a person’s overall health in addition to their fertility, aiming to bring balance and harmony to both mind and body.
Acupuncture may boost IVF pregnancy rates
A recent study published in the British Medical Journal. Researchers from the University of Maryland School of Medicine in the US based their findings on the results of seven separate trials involving 1,366 women in four different countries. (Manheimer et al, 2008)
How does acupuncture aid conception?
Amongst its many benefits acupuncture has been shown to:
- reduce the stress and side-effects related to IVF;
- enhance the development of healthy eggs;
- facilitate embryo implantation by increasing the blood flow to the womb and thickening the uterus lining.
For further information about why acupuncture treatment for fertility is an option worth considering, browse the excellent American Pregnancy Association website. The site has lots of useful information, however the article on Acupuncture for Infertility is particularly useful and expands on this, further suggesting the validity of acupuncture for fertility.
Length of treatment
Ideally treatment should begin 6-8 weeks before your IVF commences. However, it’s never too late and I can even treat couples up to just a few days before egg collection.
There is plenty of research to indicate acupuncture for fertility treatment, as an adjunct to IVF or prior to that. Please call City Acupuncture in Birmingham on 07798 622 788 or email firstname.lastname@example.org for more information and to book an appointment.
